Jill MumfordMy work as a painter has been inspired and encouraged by two generations of artists: my father and my grandfather. After leaving my graphic design course at Hornsey College of Art I worked as an illustrator for a couple of years. I then spent three years as Art Director at Polydor records designing and working with bands on record covers. To further my study in painting I enrolled to the Slade School of Art for a summer school. I paint mostly still life trying to find good colour relationships and looking for the abstract shapes that shadows provide in my compositions. I am constantly inspired by colour, space and form. I paint and draw regularly from life models and practise plein air landscape painting. I am inspired by Corot, Cezanne, Chardin and recently by artists who have studied at J.S.S. the Jerusalem school. Artists like Adam Cohn and Oleg Lissin. I also belong and exhibit with The Cambridge Drawing Society. |
