Jill ElliottI’m originally a North Londoner. Art was my number one subject at school and whilst there went to Hornsey Art College every Saturday with the idea of going full time after leaving school. But, I decided to go into the world of Pitman shorthand in London and earn my keep instead. Many years later, now living in Hoddesdon, I attended a watercolour class given by Tony Willis at Lowewood and he suggested joining the Lea Valley Art Society. I also joined Hertford Art Society, which then met at the Corn Exchange and later the Philosophical Painters, started by Stella Hunt. I’ve painted in watercolour, pastel and acrylics and spent a few years using resin in my work also. But my main passion now is for oils. I came into oils later in life and m mainly self-taught. I love its texture, the richness of the colours and the creativity it offers and I paint almost every day. |
