Kathy BurmanArt allows me to explore ideas freely. Working in many mediums, in a realistic, figurative or abstract style, I enjoy taking an idea and exploring it in diverse ways, seeking to express part of myself in the final piece. I enjoy the surprises which come with collage; the scraps of paper seeming to find their own course until, eventually, they are satisfied with the unity of the image. Working with clay has its own challenges – I like to create strong abstract forms which play with the fall of light and shade. My love of life drawing also finds its way into stoneware figures. The mood of each artwork is important to me –allowing it to develop with the subject or the material leading me rather than having a final destination in mind. This approach will, I hope, endow each piece of work with the pleasure taken in its creation. |
