My motivation for painting is probably colour and light. I started painting as a child of 8 when my father gave me my own set of paints and brushes. Later I taught myself to paint in watercolour and then mixed media. Currently I am quite excited about the colours to be achieved using Acrylics.
It is good to try different things and belonging to a talented art group such as Hertford Art Society, encourages one to try other ideas. I also belong to Hitchin Art Club and very much enjoy the programmes of these groups and the like-minded company that they provide.
During the 1980s and 1990s I enjoyed exhibiting in London at the Mall Galleries and the Westminster Gallery as a member of the Society of Botanical Artists and the United Society of Artists. I have won many awards for my work, particularly with flowers, the most notable being The British Watercolour Society who awarded a silver medal, The Osbourne Butler Award and twice “Highly Commended” for my entries to the Exhibitions.
